A note on UV Light Sanitation
Since before the creation of penicillin, we as a species have continued to perfect and refine our approach towards sanitation. And while traditional disinfection methods such as cleaning with hot water, bleach, and other disinfectants have proved helpful, they never did end up truly eliminating all harmful germs and bacteria.
Of course, innovation in the field of sanitation hardly ended there and further optimization existed in the form of invisible UV light waves.
Cut to the present and we see UV light sanitation being used in a variety of different industries through groundbreaking pieces of tech. Naturally, however, there’s still a bit of skepticism to be found when it comes to how effective flashes of light can be at eradicating germs that bleach and a little elbow grease can’t.
How UV Light Sanitation Works
Ultraviolet light is considered germicidal due to its ability to effectively eliminate bacteria.
Without getting too into specifics, UV radiation earns this classification by emitting a wavelength that falls between 200 and 300 nanometers. When light that exists in that spectrum is shined on bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens, it deactivates their DNA, destroying their ability to multiply and killing them.
Effectiveness of UV sanitation can vary based on a number of factors like, length of exposure to bacteria, the intensity of the radiation, and a microorganism’s resistance to said radiation.
The key to enhancing UV light sanitation in the face of these variables is delivering multiple passes of exposure. Hitting the subject you’re hoping to sanitize multiple times will ensure bacteria with a little more resistance will also have their DNA deactivated.
A few simple steps to ensure success
Prior to service:
To provide the most effective disinfection service, we ask you to make a few simple, yet critical, preparations before we arrive to perform the service. Your ClorPro Service Professional will let you know if steps are needed beyond what are listed below.
Remove all materials which could be damaged by moisture, e.g. paperwork, artwork, photographs.
Remove all food items from the area to be treated.
Place food containers and utensils inside cupboards or drawers.
Cover all electrical equipment should with plastic, e.g. keyboards and monitors.
Remove from the treatment area all valuables you do not want us to treat.
Clear access for our Service Professionals, including removing trip hazards.
Remove birds and other pets from the treatment area.
If your home or business has fish tanks, aquariums or ponds please ask for additional guidance for their protection.
Cover Keyboards and Monitors
What to expect during service:
The disinfection application involves the use of an automatic ULV (Ultra Low Volume) mister designed to disperse the disinfectant in fine micron particles appearing to hang in the air as they slowly settle onto all surfaces.
This will result in the surfaces becoming wet for a short period after the treatment. This period is when the disinfectant is active, and the surface must be left to dry.
Your ClorPro Professional will wipe down all frequently touched areas (doorknob/handle, handrails, elevator buttons, kitchen and bathroom areas, etc.)
No one should access the structure until at least 2-hours post completion of application, dependent upon the ventilation of the premises.
After treatment is complete:
Apart from enjoying peace of mind for you and your family or work staff, the following quick housekeeping tips should be noted for continued success between disinfection services:
Inform your family or work staff, if there is any moisture remaining when they return, they should dry it with paper towel which should then disposed of. Direct contact with hands or other parts of their bodies should be avoided.
Rinse any food/drinking containers before use if they were left in an exposed location.
Ensure new materials brought back into the area are sanitized appropriately.
Wipe-down all food preparation areas with soap and water
